Soak the produce in the vinegar solution for a few minutes, then rinse thoroughly with water. I use a 1:3 vinegar solution for about 5–10 minutes to help loosen dirt.

4. Soak Leafy Greens: Leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, and kale should be soaked in a bowl of cold water to remove dirt and pesticides. Swish the greens around in the water, then drain and rinse thoroughly. Adding a tablespoon of baking soda to the water has shown to help remove some of the pesticides and residue both leafy greens and firm produce when soaked for about 10 minutes.

5. Scrub Firm Skin Produce: For produce with firm skin, such as potatoes, carrots, and squash, use a vegetable brush to scrub the surface under running water. This helps remove dirt and debris from the crevices and ridges of the skin.

6. Dry Thoroughly: After washing, pat produce dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towel to remove excess moisture. Drying helps prevent bacterial growth and extends the shelf life of the produce.
